What counts as a small or medium-sized company in the EU?
A medium-sized enterprise has fewer than 250 staff and a turnover of at most 50 million euros or a balance sheet of at most 43 million euros. A small enterprise has fewer than 50 staff and at most 10 million euros, a micro enterprise fewer than 10 staff and at most 2 million euros.
Staff headcount must always be met, and either turnover or balance sheet total. Partner and linked companies are counted in, so a small subsidiary of a large group is not an SME.
